The Best Western Pannonia Med Hotel **** built nearly 120 years ago exels in it’s guests' service. Its story begins in the 1500’s, when it used to work as an inn. It fell prey to fire repeatedly, but was always rebuilt. When celebrities and noblemen visited the city our house has always been a popular place to reside. In 1793 count Széchényi Ferenc (Széchenyi István’s father) resided within our halls. Johann Strauss, who spent his secret honeymoons in the city, was the house's guest in 1882, but he was not staying for long because of the big respect he received, after being recognized by the famous Lajos Munczy. |

Ferenc Liszt also received here a delegation from Doborján. A moving scene took place between the walls of this house: Liszt -catching sight of his childhood schoolmaster- hurried to him and kissed his hand. Liszt liked Sopron and the city became attached to him. In 1921 – when Sopron’s affiliation has been resolved – count István Bethlen faced the occasion of a referendum here and visited the Ally delegates. The hotel has been the site of protocol events since then. It ensued in the course of a change of owners with the conservation of traditions in 1988, but the hotel got to a renovation according to the claims of today's age, its capacity was expanded by rooms, a wellness section and a garage with the secondary structure of a newer wing.

Elegant environment, romantic style, paintings, sculptures, original antique furnitures, hospitality with a high standard and to all this a favorable price characterize the hotel which can be found in the downtown's heart. The considerable musicians of our age made an appearance in the house, for example Dénes Kovács, Éva Maros, György Geiger, Gergely Bogányi, Szilvia Sass etc. Our Europe hall gives place and has been home for over 400 concerts where music fans can enjoyed the high-standard music with free entrance. The house offers reception of open charity concerts too. An Art Gallery works on the hotel's first floor since 1994, thus far with nearly 200 high-standard exhibitions.

Every summer our roof terrace is the scene of cosy gastronomic and cultural programs with titles like: Cinema Above the City and Cellar on the Roof
The Ferenc Liszt Cultural Association was formed in the hotel, which organized and coordinated the annual Liszt Festival events, which is connected to other Liszt-companies concerning more of the world's cities. The Hotel was the scene of forming the Pan European Picnic ‘89 foundation: To the memory of the 1989 border breakthrough we organize an exhibition and conferences annually. |
